Blu-ray disks are currently limited to a slow 2x write speed, as are the burners. Fortunately, Nichia Corporation looks to change that.

Nichia's new laser diode is able to emit pulsed light at 320mW, while it offers a stable operation of 1,000 hours, according to the company. The diode could be used for optical discs including Blu-ray and HD DVD, allowing 10X speed recording with a double-layer disc and 2X speed recording with a four-layer disc.

It should be available to retail shortly. A DVD capable of holding 20GB could go head-to-head against HD DVD and Blu-ray

The home entertainment market is still wrestling with having two HD optical formats, HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc, but soon it will have to deal with another. UK-based New Medium Enterprises (NME) has developed the Versatile Multilayer Disc (VMD), a new optical-based format capable of storing 20GB of data.

Unlike HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc, VMD is a red-laser technology that achieves its storage capacity by using a greater number of layers. VMD is precisely the same size and thickness as DVD. However, while DVD technology utilizes two layers of a disc, VMD technology has conceived multi-layering, where up to 5GB can easily be stored on each layer.

New Medium Enterprises said that in January 2007 that it secured worldwide patents surrounding its technology that provides up to eight information layers on each side of a disc. NME patents filed in 2004 cover the principles of NME's “modified 2P process,�? which involves producing more than two layers on a single-sided disc, and allow for the replication of multilayer discs with the production yield and subsequent production costs comparable to current DVD production. The patent also covers the general set-up of a VMD production line and method of playing-back multilayer discs.

NME says that its VMD technology drastically diminishes the cross talk between layers—a problem that prevented original DVDs from breaking through the dual-layer barrier. Keeping cross talk at bay is a separating layer that holds a definite distance between neighboring information layers. The intermediate layers are formed with application of so-called “2p technology.�? It is a very simple process implemented on the usual DVD bonding machines, according to NME.

SanDisk announces Extreme III with 4 GB SDHC class 6 and a 4 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo Card. The SDHC card will be packaged with a SanDisk MicroMate USB 2.0 Reader - a $20 value. A 4GB SanDisk Extreme III card can store more than 2,000 high-resolution pictures or up to 8 hours of MPEG 4 video.

The SDHC card has a read/write speed of 20 MB/s, and the Memory Stick PRO Duo card has a read/write speed of 18 MB/s.

Samsung Ships 16Gb NAND Flash Memory

Samsung has announced that it is the first company to begin mass production of 16Gb NAND flash memory. The new 51 nanometer (nm) memory is based on a multi-level cell (MLC) structure and is 60 percent more efficient than its 60nm counterpart.

"In rolling out the densest NAND flash in the world, we are throwing open the gates to a much wider playing field for flash-driven consumer electronics," said Jim Elliott, Samsung Semiconductor's director for flash marketing. The Travelstar 200GB 7K200 is already being shipped in systems from Dell and Alienware.

Hitachi claims it has a 22 per cent performance improvement over its predecessor using PC Mark05 benchmarks. It also offers an encryption version of the drive.

The drive has 4.2ms average latency, 10ms average read time and 11ms average write time.

Although it is selling the HDD to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) already, it will also start selling the unit in shops over the summer, priced at $250. µ

Most computer users want faster hard drives to aide in faster boot times and application loading. Solid state drives (SSDs) promised to improve our load times and they did to some degree.

If a measly 64GB solid state drive just doesn’t cut it for your needs, Fusion-io has a new 640GB flash based hard drive that slips into a PCI-Express x4 slot. Fusion-io promises some very swift speeds from the drive in the neighborhood of 600 Mbytes/sec sustained write speed (4000Mbytes/sec random) and 800 Mbytes/sec sustained read (8,000 Mbytes/sec random).

The ioDrive has no moving parts to increase the lifespan and reduce the risk of failure. If more capacity is needed scaling is possible by adding more ioDrive cards to the system. The sustained data transfer rates that Fusion-io promises (PDF) are vastly superior to other enterprise level storage devices on the market such as Ultra SCSI and SAS storage devices.

Supported operating systems include Linux Red Hat AS4.0, Windows Vista and Windows XP. The catch to go along with all of the performance the ioDrive promises is that the 640GB version costs a massive $19,000 USD. Gizmodo is reporting that when the 640GB drive is released in Q1 2008 80GB, 160GB, and 320GB versions will also be available.

Tokyo (Japan) - Toshiba is the next data storage giant announcing its entry into the increasingly popular solid state disk (SSD) storage market.

The company said it will be begin sampling solid state disk drives in February of next year with mass production expected to begin as early as March 2008: Toshiba will be offering both SATA-2 SSD modules as well as SATA-2 drives in 1.8�? and 2.5�? form factors in 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB capacities. The modules are scheduled to be introduced in March, while the drives will be hitting the market in May.

Toshiba said that the new storage devices are designed to be “primarily�? used in notebook PCs.

The company’s announcement is adding fuel to speculations that SSDs could see significant price drops over today’s $500+ 32 GB versions drives. In fact, Toshiba may be the most important company to bring a new dynamic to a market that largely has been dominated by Samsung so far: According to iSuppli, Toshiba is the world’s second largest NAND flash supplier with a market share of 27.2% in Q3 of this year. Market leader Samsung, which began shipping SSDs earlier this year, is estimated to hold a share of 40.2%.

Toshiba said that its SSDs will use NAND flash produced in 56 nm technology and will integrate an original MLC controller “supporting fast read-write speeds, parallel data transfers and wear leveling, and achieve performance levels comparable to those of single-level NAND flash SSDs.�? The use of multi-level cells was key to achieve a density of 128 GB, the firm noted.

The maximum read speed of the SSD products is rated at 100 MB/s; the maximum write speed is 40MB/s with a SATA-2 interface. The operating life of the drives is rated at 1,000,000 hours.

Samsung Electronics has announced that it has begun mass producing 64GB solid state drives (SSDs) with its new SATA II interface. Samsung said its 64GB SATA II SSD, which began shipping earlier this month, will be available as an option within the next few weeks in select Dell and Alienware notebooks.

Able to read data at 100MB per second and write data at 80MB per second, Samsung's SATA II SSD is up to 60% faster than SATA I drives and performs two to five times faster than conventional hard disk drives (HDDs), according to the company. It also consumes nearly 75% less power than typical HDDs (1.45W compared to 2.1W) and at 73 grams, SSDs are much lighter than HDDs.

The SATA II SSD is comprised primarily of single-level-cell NAND flash memory.

OCZ has officially announced its ultra-fast SATA II 2.5-inch Solid State Drives, or SSDs. This ultra-fast series will have two models, one with 32GB and other with 64GB capacity.

Both models will have a 120MB/s read speed and 100MB/s write speed, which can be attributed to the use of more expensive SLC NAND chips. As mentioned, both of these drives will be made in the 2.5-inch form factor, and they will weigh a mere 77 grams. As all SSDs, these two will also feature high shock resistance and low power consumption.

Both of the drives have MTBF (mean time before failure) rated at 2 million hours, and they both come with a one-year warranty. The suggested price for the 32GB model is $499, while the bigger 64GB version will have a price tag of $1,099.

وسترن دیجیتال بعد از اینکه تونست به تکنولوژِی ساخت پلاترهای 320 گیگابایتی دست پیدا کنه یک محصول حاصل از این تکنولوژی به نام WD6400AAKS به بازار عرضه کرده که 640 گیگ فضا داره و از دو پلاتر 320 گیگی تشکیل شده . این هارد درایو فوق العاده علاوه بر قیمت خیلی خوبی که داره یعنی چیزی فقط در حدود 129$ (و البته الان چیزی در حدود 119$ هم میشه این هارد رو خرید) عملکرد بسیار خوبی هم نسبت به هاردهای سریع و گرون قیمت و ظرفیت بالای موجود بازار از خودش به نمایش گذاشته .

مادیران از عرضه Blu Ray جدید LG طی روزهای آینده به بازار خبر داد.
طبق اعلام این نمایندگی،GBW-H۱۰N دارای تكنولوژی Blu-Ray در ضبط و خواندن اطلاعات، قابلیت ضبط و خواندن دیسك‌های DVD با فرمت‌های DVD+R/RW، DVD-R/RW و DVD-RAM، قابلیت ضبط و خواندن دیسك‌های CD-R و
CD-RW است. این كالا همچنین قابلیت ضبط اطلاعات روی دیسك‌های DVD دولایه (Double Layer) را داشته و با تمام فرمت‌های دیسك‌های CD و DVD سازگار است.
حجم بافر این درایو نیز دو مگابایت است. هنوز قیمت این درایو اعلام نشده است اما به محض ورود به بازار داخلی با ضمانت مادیران به فروش می‌رسد.
این نمایندگی همچنین مدل GSA-E۴۰L را از درایوهای جدید LG در بازار معرفی كرد.
این درایــو كــــه از خانــــواده Super Matli DVD Rewriter ها است دارای ویژگی‌هایی چون، سرعت ۱۸برابر در ضبط اطلاعات روی DVD، تجهیز به تكنولوژی چاپ روی دیسك (Light scribe)، قابلیت ذخیره اطلاعات تا ظرفیت ۵/۸گیگابایت روی دیسك‌های DVD دو لایه است.

سرویس اخبار خارجی ایتنا - توشیبا اعلام کرد درحال کار بر روی ابداع فرمت جدیدی از DVD است که می‌تواند کیفیتی قابل مقایسه با دیسک‌های Blu-ray و HD-DVD را به نمایش درآورد.


در این گزارش که در روزنامه ژاپنی یومیوری شیمبون و از قول یک منبع که نام آن محفوظ اعلام گردید چاپ شد آمده است که این شرکت در نظر دارد طی شش ماه آینده فروش سری جدیدی از دستگاه‌های پخش‌کننده DVD که مجهز به فن‌آوری جدید هستند را آغاز نماید.

به گفته این منبع ناشناس، این پخش‌کننده‌های جدید و پیشرفته به قیمتی پائین‌تر از پخش‌کننده‌های Blu-ray فروخته خواهند شد.

توشیبا در فوریه 2008 و پس از سال‌ها مطالعه و کار بر روی فرمت اختصاصی خود یعنی HD-DVD ، ناچار شد تا رقابت را به طور رسمی به فرمت رقیب یعنی Blu-ray واگذار نماید.

این منبع افزود دستگاه جدید همچنین با فرمت‌های پیشین و استاندارد قدیمی سازگاری کامل خواهد داشت.

در ادامه این گزارش آمده است فرمت تغییر یافته جدید بر مبنای حجم زیادی از چیپ‌های مداری یکپارچه که باعث تبدیل سریع اطلاعات ذخیره شده بر روی دیسک می‌شود ساخته شده اما اطلاعات فنی دیگری ذکر نشده است.

تولیدکنندگان همواره سعی می‌کنند تا با ایجاد و اضافه نمودن اطلاعات جدیدی که توسط پخش‌کننده‌های جدید خوانده می‌شوند اما قابل خواندن توسط انواع قدیمی‌تر نیستند، چرخه عمر فناوری‌های ذخیره‌سازی خود را افزایش دهند.

بعنوان مثال دیسک‌های ترکیبی SACD قابلیت پخش توسط دستگاه‌های پخش سی‌دی استاندارد را دارند اما هنگامی که با دستگاه‌های مخصوص پخش می‌شوند کیفیت بمراتب بالاتری را به نمایش خواهند گذاشت.

شرکت کینگستون اعلام کرد که در روز 8 ژانویه اولین سری محصولات SSD خود را راوانه بازار فروش کرده است. این محصولات به سری های SSDNow M و SSDNow E مربوط میشود.
سری SSDNow E برای سیستمها ی سرور و سری M برای کاربران حرفه ای و نوت بوکها و سیستم های شخصی استفاده میشود. درایوهای جامد کینگستون از SSD های اینتل که در حال حاضر بهترین بازار محسوب میشود بهره برده اند.

While Seagate, the world's largest vendor of hard disk drives, is still having issues with its Barracuda hard drives, which have been reported to break even after a patch released by the company was applied, competitor Western Digital is expected to unveil a new product that will provide its customers with a massive 2TB of storage space. Said hard drive hasn't yet been made official, but users are expecting it to become so, since it has been listed on an Australian online retailer
Traditional hard drives still have the advantage of providing more storage space than the faster and exponentially less loud solid state drives. If the information is correct, Western Digital could take desktop computer storage as well as consumer storage to new highs, with the release of its first 2TB hard drive

There are no specific details regarding the official launch of the hard drive, but it's likely that Western Digital will be announcing the new product in the upcoming hours. This will mean that Western Digital will be the first hard drive maker to provide users with a massive 2TB hard disk drive, beating Seagate and Hitachi in the process.

Seagate is also expected to unveil its own 2TB product, but the Scotts Valley, California-based company is currently having some problems with its customer support, due to some 1.5TB hard drives. A-DATA unveiled its new consumer solid-state drive, packing in a whopping 500 GB in an itty-bitty 2.5-inch space.

A-DATA Technology revealed it all today at CeBIT 2009, whipping out its little 2.5-inch wonder and dazzling onlookers with its impressive storage capacity. A-DATA's 512 GB XPG 2.5-inch SSD offers notebooks and PC enthusiasts half a terabyte of storage with excellent read and write speeds. Although the company did not offer a price range, it did boast about its miniature hog, calling it "dashing" as it gleams with its lightweight Aluminum casing. There's no word if this card is even available yet but we're betting that's a big no.

As for the read and write speeds, the 512 GB XPG 2.5-inch SDD offers top read speeds of 230 MB/sec. and top write speeds of 160MB/sec. and utilizes SATA II. Additionally, the SSD features a shock resistance of 1500G/0.5ms and a MTBF (mean time between failures) of 1,500,000 hours.

"Continuing to leading in the industry, A-DATA is committed to provide the highest performance, capacity, and best quality products to satisfy the needs of PC enthusiasts," the company said. "Through the launch of the highest capacity of SSD in the industry, the 512 GB XPG 2.5-inch SSD is committed to satisfy the needs of notebook and PC enthusiasts on fast transfer rate and high capacity SSD."

For the last few years, SATA 2 has been the hard drive connection standard of choice for non-server markets. Offering up to 3 Gbps (300 MB/sec.) of (theoretical) speed has been adequate for many. However, Seagate, AMD and SATA-io believe the time for SATA 3 has come.

During a demonstration at the Everything Channel Xchange Conference in New Orleans, Seagate demoed the new 6 Gbps SATA 3 standard. According to the demo, the SATA2 drive (a 7200.12 Barracuda) topped out around 288 MB/sec, running just below the standards top theoretical speed. The SATA 3 drive, a Seagate Barracuda SATA 3 prototype, reached a staggering 589 MB/sec, more than double the speed of the SATA 2 setup.


"The increasing reliance of consumers and businesses worldwide on digital information is giving rise to gaming, digital video and audio, streaming video, graphics and other applications that require even more bandwidth, driving demand for PC interfaces that can carry even more digital content," said Joan Motsinger, Seagate's VP of Personal Systems Marketing and Strategy. "The SATA 6Gb/second storage interface will meet this demand for higher-bandwidth PCs."


New standards always make consumers nervous. New standards, in some cases, mean new hardware and new cables. In the case of SATA 3, the new drives will be 100 percent backwards compatible with SATA 1 and 2, and will use the same cables for easy integration. So if you find yourself with a new motherboard that sports SATA 3, hooking up an older SATA 2 hard drive packed with all your music and photos will be a snap.


According to the SATA-io website, SATA 3 (or SATA Revision 3.0) will be available in the first half of this year. AMD has said it plans to support the new standard with an upcoming revision of its 700 series chipsets. While no word from Intel has been received, expect SATA 3 on several chipset revisions as well as the new P55 motherboards coming out in a few months.

Just when you thought 1 TB hard disk drives were getting a little cramped, Samsung today announced its efficient 1.5 TB drive.

Samsung’s latest drive is dubbed the EcoGreen F2EG and is put together with three 500 GB platters. The company points to its high-density platters as one of the key factors behind the hard drive’s power efficiency.

“Lower platter count means less power to start the motor, less power to continuously spin the motor and a lighter head-stack which takes less power to seek,” said Andy Higginbotham, director of HDD sales and marketing for Samsung. “With fewer heads and disks, the F2EG hard drive has a lower probability of head-disk failures, enabling customers to build more reliable systems.”

Samsung says that its F2EG drive is 40 percent lower in power consumption in idle mode and 45 percent lower in reading/writing mode than “competitive drives,” though the company didn’t reveal which those drives were.

All material related to the drive focus on the power efficiency advantages of the F2EG, leading us to believe that this is one not meant for the demanding desktop user. Instead, Samsung is primarily shipping the drive to manufacturers of home media PC, external HDD, set-top box, and personal NAS.

محققان شرکت جنرال الکتریک فناوری جدید را معرفی کرده اند که ذخیره 500 گیگابایت اطلاعات در یک دیسک در سایز دی وی دی را ممکن می سازد. تکنولوژی جدید دیسک ميکرو هولوگرافيک نام گذاری شده است. برای ذخيره این حجم از اطلاعات در حال حاضر به 20 ديسک بلو ری و یا 100 دی وی دی احتیاج دارید.



نحوه ذخيره اطلاعات در دی وی دی ها و ديسک های بلو ری فعلی به گونه ای است که اطلاعات از یک زاویه نوشته و خوانده می شود. اما در فناوری جدید اطلاعات به صورت سه بعدی در دیسک ذخیره می شوند. به همین علت امکان ذخیره سازی اطلاعات در تمام حجم دیسک وجود دارد. هنگام خواندن اطلاعات نیز فناوری جدید به صورت سه بعدی به خواندن دیسک می پردازد و همین موضوع امکان ذخیره سازی این حجم بالا از اطلاعات را فراهم کرده است.
هزینه تولید دیسک های هولوگرافیک ارزان و حدود 10 سنت برای هر گيگابایت خواهد بود. این در حالی است که قیمت ديسک های بلو ری حدود 1 دلار برای هر گيگابايت است.
این تکنولوژی پس از طی مراحل آزمایش و بررسی های متعدد به بازار عرضه خواهد شد و به گفته سرپرستان تيم در سال 2010 و يا شاید هم 2011 می توانيد شاهد حضور دیسک های هولوگرافیک در بازار باشيد.

1- من الان یه سیگیت 160 گیگ دارم. کابل هارد کوتاه هستش و یه کابل برق داره یه دیتا البته من یکیش رو به کامپیوتر زدم همونی که هم برق هس و هم دیتا ولی چرا کابل هاش بلندتر نیست بتونم بزارم روی میز کامپیوتر. کابل بلند تر میشه خرید؟؟؟ چه ابلی بگیرم؟؟ چون یه کایبل گوشی و دوربین که بهش میخورد رو زدم بعد به کامپیوتر وصل کردم هارد صدا میده و نمیشناسه. صدای مثل بوق بوق پشت هم.
2- روی این هارد نمیشه پسورد گذاشت کلا به هر سیستمی وصل میکنی پسورد بخواد برای ورود به هارد. برنامه Pc Security رو نمیشه روش نصب کرد قفل گذاشت؟؟؟ برای پارتیشن بندی چیکار کنم ؟؟؟ اطلاعات دارم داخلش نمیخوام از بین بره. با پارتیشن مجیک چطوری میتونم پارتیشن کنم؟؟؟
3- من اطلاعاتم رو فقط روی این هارد دارم اعتباری بهش هست؟؟ البته الان چند ماهی میشه مدام به کامپیوتر وصل هست مشکلی ندارم شکر خدا. آخه اطلاعتم رو بخوام بریزم داخل دی وی دی هر سری باید هی دی وی دی رایت کنم. داخل هارد پی سی هم نگه نمیدارم.

4- الان بهترین هارد چه مارکی هستش و چه قیمتی؟؟؟ این هارد های سیگیت خوب هستن؟؟؟ مدل برای من FreeAgent هستش و راضي هستم الان 1 سالي دارم ومرتب به سيستم وصل هست. البته من جايي ديدم وسترن ديجيتال بهتر هست. هاردهاي وسترن ديجيتال هم كابلش كوتاه هست براي چي كوتاه ميزنن به كيس وصل كنيم كه نميشه روي ميز گذاشت بايد رو هوا بمونه؟؟ البته ميگن كابل ميتوني بدي سازن ؟؟؟؟
5- ميخوام بدونم قيمت 500 گيگ و 1 تراايتي چند هستش؟؟؟ كدوم مدل بهتر هست؟؟؟؟
